Choosing The Correct Product

There are various Registration-related products and your order may be rejected if you have not used the correct one.

Temporary / Under 5 Year Registration (Verified)
This is a Temporary Registration for horses who have not had their 5th birthday and whose pedigree can be verified either by an IMHR Stallion Return, DNA verification report, or alternate recognised registration (see note regarding Studbook Amnesty below for more details). Temporary Registrations expire on the horse's 5th birthday and if not Upgraded to Permanent Registration within 6 months of expiry, will be revoked. To be reinstated, the upgrade fee plus Revoked Reinstatement Fee must be paid.

Temporary / Under 5 Year Registration (Unverified)
This is a Temporary Registration for horses who have not had their 5th birthday and whose pedigree cannot be verified either by an IMHR Stallion Return, DNA verification report, or alternate recognised registration (see note regarding Studbook Amnesty below for more details). Temporary Registrations expire on the horse's 5th birthday and if not Upgraded to Permanent Registration within 6 months of expiry, will be revoked. To be reinstated, the upgrade fee plus Revoked Reinstatement Fee must be paid.

Permanent / Over 5 Year Registration (Verified)
This is a Permanent Registration for horses who have already had their 5th birthday and whose pedigree can be verified either by an IMHR Stallion Return, DNA verification report, or alternate recognised registration (see note regarding Studbook Amnesty below for more details). This is to establish a new registration, if the horse already holds Temporary Registration, you must use the Upgrade product rather than this one.

Permanent / Over 5 Year Registration (Unverified)
This is a Permanent Registration for horses who have already had their 5th birthday and whose pedigree cannot be verified either by an IMHR Stallion Return, DNA verification report, or alternate recognised registration (see note regarding Studbook Amnesty below for more details). This is to establish a new registration, if the horse already holds Temporary Registration, you must use the Upgrade product rather than this one.

Gelding Registration (Any Age)
This is for geldings who do not already hold IMHR registration as a stallion or colt (check the IMHR Online Studbook). A castration certificate or statutory declaration from an equine professional must be submitted - displaying horse's full registered name and brand/microchip details. If born on or after 1st August 2015 and you wish to have parentage listed on the certificate, pedigree must be verified either by an IMHR Stallion Return, DNA verification report, or alternate recognised registration (see note regarding Studbook Amnesty below for more details).

Update Gelding Status
Just gelded your colt or stallion? This product is for geldings who already hold IMHR registration as a colt or stallion (check the IMHR Online Studbook) and who are not due for Upgrade. The registration must be current and in your name, and a castration certificate or statutory declaration from an equine professional must be submitted - displaying horse's full registered name and brand/microchip details.

Adult Upgrade & Revoked Registrations
When your IMHR registered horse has it's 5th birthday, you will use this to upgrade your horse to Permanent Registration. If not upgraded to Permanent Registration within 6 months of Temporary Registration expiry, the registration will be revoked. To be reinstated, the upgrade fee plus Revoked Reinstatement Fee must be paid. Gelding Upgrades have their own separate product. Revoked reinstatement fee will still apply to geldings if upgrade is overdue.
Note: The Revoked Reinstatement Fee will not be added to your total automatically, you will need to add this to your cart as a separate product. The order will be held pending until this is paid.

ICHR Registration
IMHR Coloured Horse Registry (ICHR) is a supplement for coloured IMHR registered horses, it allows them to compete in coloured (pinto, buckskin etc) classes at open shows which require coloured registration but is not limited to a particular society. The horse must have current IMHR registration in your name before you can apply for ICHR registration.

Transfer of Registration
If you have purchased a horse whom is already IMHR registered, you do not need to re-register that horse. You will require a Transfer Form from the owner we have on file (check the IMHR Online Studbook). You may also have to upgrade and reinstate the horse if it's Temporary Registration has expired.

Cancel Registration
This is for IMHR registered horses who have died, been given away without papers, gone over height etc. Any horse you wish to revoke registration for.

Regarding the IMHR Studbook Amnesty

For the amnesty period to 1 August 2015, parentage as specified by the registered owner will be recorded on the Association stud book and registration certificates. After this date, proof of parentage must be provided via stallion return (lodged with IMHR before resultant foal is born), DNA or dual registration with another society recognised by the Committee. Horses without confirmed parentage shall be listed with parentage ‘not on file’ until parentage is confirmed.

In a nutshell, if the horse was born on or after 1st August 2015, you will need proof of pedigree to have parentage listed on the certificate.

Recognised societies for the purposes of registration are:

- Miniature Horse Association of Australia (MHAA) Inc.
- Australian Miniature Pony Society (AMPS) Inc.
- New Zealand Miniature Horse Association (NZMHA) Inc.
- American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA) Inc.
- American Shetland Pony Club (ASPC)
- Australian Pony Stud Book (APSB)

DNA Parentage Testing

If you need to prove parentage via DNA genetic testing, we recommend Practical Horse Genetics, Sydney. IMHR members receive a discount on testing by using the code word IMHREG

The horse you are registering must be DNA verified to both sire and dam to have both parents listed.

Using MHAA Service Certificates/Stallion Returns

If you are attempting to register a horse using an MHAA service certificate, you must include a copy of the lodgement receipt (tax invoice) which would have been issued to the stallion owner at the time the return was submitted. Failure to do so will result in the horse being registered with parentage 'not on file' until parentage is confirmed by other means as outlined above.

Completing The Registration Form

Membership Name/Number:
You must be financial to register a horse and you can only register the horse in your own name, if you are selling the horse to someone, a transfer form and applicable fee is also required. Stud names are not accepted as an owner, we need a representative's name/s who will be responsible for signing transfer paperwork for the horse should it be sold in the future.
If you are applying for a new membership in the same transaction, please put 0000 as your membership number.

Horse Name:
Name must include a prefix or suffix. Generic pet names such as "Misty" will be rejected as they are not unique enough. You do not have to be a breeder to register a prefix or suffix, doing so allows you to register any unregistered horses that come into your care. If the horse is already registered with another society, the horse must keep the same name. If you need to register a prefix or suffix, please check that it is not in use by another stud in any registry.

Breeder's Name:
Breeders are responsible for registering their own youngstock, and providing the new owner with a transfer form. The breeder and prefix must be the same. You cannot have a person listed as the breeder while using another stud's prefix. If you are registering a horse using your own prefix (or suffix) but did not breed the horse, you can opt for breeder to be listed as "not on file".

Current Height & Type:
Please give horse's height in inches at the highest point of the wither. Refer to the Height For Age chart to determine the type (category) your horse falls into.

DOB:
If unsure, please have a vet or equine dentist estimate the year of birth and use 1st Aug as birth date.

Colour:
Grey is not accepted as a colour, please give base colour and pattern for grey horses. Example: Bay pinto going grey. The only exception is for aged horses in which this information may not be known.

Brand or Microchip Details:
All horses and ponies aged 1 year and over must be microchipped or branded to comply with the regulations of the Stock (Brands and Movement) Act relevant in your State or Territory. Registrations, upgrades, transfers etc will not be processed without this information. If you do not have your own brand, your equine vet or branding professional will have one you can use. Give a clear description of the brand, or email a drawing to imhrinc@outlook.com. Drop/birth year numbers are recommended, especially if you brand many horses or to differentiate those who look similar.

Sire/Dam Name:
If you are registering an unverified horse, you can write 'Unknown' or 'Not on File' in this field. Dam/sire names need to be spelled correctly, so please check the IMHR Online Studbook (or other studbooks) if you are unsure.

Registration Photos:
An offside and nearside photo of the horse is required for the certificate. Please get sharp, clear photos showing the complete horse and all it's markings, with the animal taking up at least 70% of the frame (crop out excess background). Ensure that no gear, handlers, ribbons etc are concealing markings. If your horse has facial markings, it is recommended that at least one of the photos show the horse with it's head tilted slightly towards the camera. There must be no foals/other horses in the photographs. You will need to resize your photos so that they meet the shop requirements.

Other Uploads:
You may see options to upload sire/dam papers, alternate registrations, certificate of soundness, castration certificate, other verification documents. These are not compulsory fields unless stated. Please ensure your file size and format meets the shop requirements.
